  Zhang Zhihe, Ph.D
Chairman and President

Zhang Zhihe is Director General of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the Director-General of the Giant Panda Breeding Technology Committee of China, the Vice Director General and Secretary of the Chengdu Research Foundation of Giant Panda Breeding, the Executive Director of the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens and the Vice Director-General of the Sichuan Zoological Society. He has devoted himself to the conservation and management of endangered wildlife such as giant pandas, red pandas and leopards. Dr. Zhang has participated in successful major national research projects and has received many awards and prizes for science and technology achievement. He has compiled two works as chief editor and has published 42 scientific articles.

  John Spotila, JD
Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President

The Honorable John Spotila is the President and Chair of the GLOBAL CAUSE Foundation. He is also Chief Executive Officer of R3I Solutions, LLC, a Washington D.C. based management consulting firm which excels at process improvement and clear communication. For eight years, John served President Clinton as General Counsel of the Small Business Administration and as Senate-confirmed Administrator of OMB¡¯s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the White House. After success as President and Chief Operating Officer of a public company providing information technology to government, he formed R3I in 2005. John holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Languages from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from The Yale Law School.

  Sheri Yi, MBA
Board Member, Secretary and Treasurer

Sheri Yi is the Executive Vice President and a founding member of the Board of GLOBAL CAUSE. She is also the founder, President and CEO of Global Culture to Culture, a U.S.-based nonprofit which promotes international cooperation and collaboration through customized U.S.-China cultural, educational and professional initiatives. A native of Beijing and an American citizen, she has been a pioneer for over 25 years in building greater understanding and better working relationships between the United States and China. She has been a driving force in the creation of the International Center and the design of its educational outreach programs. Bilingual in English and Chinese, Sheri earned an MBA in the United States and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the prestigious Beijing Foreign Languages University. 

  Zhang Anju
Board Member

Zhang Anju is a world-renowned authority on the giant panda and one of the great champions of the effort to preserve it for future generations. He is Vice president of the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens and Director general of the Chengdu Research foundation of Giant Panda Breeding. He has published more than 30 academic articles and has compiled or co-compiled such important works as Reproduction, Physiology and Artificial breeding of Giant Pandas and Research in Giant Panda Breeding and Disease. He is known for at least sixteen inspiring research accomplishments including artificial breeding of giant pandas with frozen semen, successful hand-rearing of newborn giant panda twins, methodology for control of hemorrhagic enteritis in the giant panda, giant panda DNA fingerprinting and methods for whole-genome DNA extraction. He has won many scientific awards and was designated in 1995 as a national level distinguished expert in China.

  James R. Spotila, Ph.D
Board Member and Science Committee Co-Chair

James R. Spotila is the distinguished Betz Chair Professor of Environmental Science at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A respected ecologist and physiologist, he has written two award winning books on sea turtles and more than 130 articles in leading scientific journals. Dr. Spotila helped create the field of biophysical ecology and is the founding President of the International Sea Turtle Society and of the Leatherback Trust, two organizations dedicated to conservation and research on sea turtles. He served for two years in the Clinton Administration as Chief Environmental Scientist of the Department of the Army.

  Hou Rong, Professor
Board Member and Science Committee Co-Chair

Hou Rong is Director General of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Vice Executive Director of the Sichuan Key Lab for Breeding and Conservation of Endangered Wildlife. A key leader and contributor at the Research Base, she has also served as principal researcher in 22 important research projects at the Chengdu Research Foundation of Giant Panda Breeding. For this work, she has been awarded three prizes of Sichuan Science and Technology Advancement and five prizes of Chengdu Science and Technology Advancement. She has tutored twelve postgraduates, published 36 articles and co-authored two other works. In 2004, she earned special support from the State Council for her work. In 2005, she was selected as the candidate for distinguished young academic pioneer of Sichuan and received accompanying funding from the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Foundation.
